Off-Grid Solar Controllers
The original and main purposes of solar charge controllers are to protect your battery bank from being overcharged and to turn off the solar panels at night to block current from reversing from the batteries to the panels (electrons can flow both ways). If you hook a solar array directly to a battery with no overcharge protection, you’ll boil the battery dry and ruin it.The first charge controllers contained a simple relay that opened at a pre-set high voltage, and closed at a pre-set lower voltage to allow the panels to resume charging the battery. Battery life was of no apparent concern as there was no way to properly fully charge a battery bank. Almost any charger can get a battery to 80% (Bulk) charge. The trick is the next 20% (Absorb) In the bulk mode we have variable voltage and all the available (Constant) current (Amps) when we reach a pre-programed voltage setting the charger pass off to the Absorb Mode (And Timer) this mode uses constant voltage and variable current for a pre-determined period of time (Absorb Time) If this calculation has been done based on the available solar watts and the amp hour capacity of the battery, the absorb time can be determined. This setting will then be programed into the charge controller (by you or your installer). The factory default voltage and absorb time settings are useless (unless you’re trying to kill your batteries) because there is no way that the folks over at the factory could know how much solar you bought or what size battery bank you have. Sound too complex? Well no fear, we’ll do the math for you when you buy a charge controller.

Description
Morningstar’s TriStar MPPT TS-30 solar controller features TrakStar Technology™, an advanced maximum power point tracking (MPPT) battery charger for off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems up to 3kW. The controller provides the industry’s highest peak efficiency of 99% and loses significantly less power compared to other MPPT controllers. This particular model includes a Remote Temp Sensor.
The TriStar MPPT features "smart tracking" that maximizes the energy harvest from the PV by rapidly finding the solar array peak power point with extremely fast sweeping of the entire I-V curve. The TriStar MPPT TS-30A enables system monitoring, data logging and adjustability. Description
Maximize energy harvest and improve battery life
Introducing the new Magnum/Sensata Power Track-100 (PT-100) MPPT solar charge controller. The PT-100 boasts a high voltage input equal to the battery bank voltage plus 200 volts to a max of 240 volts open circuit on the input side and a max amperage of 100 amps in/out at 12, 24 and 48 volts. It has built in ground fault protection, arc fault protection and maintains over 99% efficiency from PV in to DC out, using less than 1 watt on self consumption.
Everything together in one place
The PT-100 is a high voltage, high amperage controller that can be programmed with simple DIP switch settings, or one or more units can be controlled through your Magnum remote control for more advanced programming (ME-ARC or ME-RTR). It can actually take an array size of up to 6,600 watts (STC) at 48 volts, which is twenty-four 275 panels in six strings of 4. The PT-100 has the great feature of limiting the output current to 100 amps, which means the output won’t exceed 100 amps even if you oversize the array.

Conext MPPT 60-150 charge controller
The Conext MPPT 60-150 charge controller is a photovoltaic (PV) charge controller that tracks the electrical maximum power point of a PV array to deliver the maximum available current for charging batteries. When charging, the Conext MPPT 60-150 regulates battery voltage and output current based on the amount of energy available from the PV array and state-of-charge of the battery. The charge controller can be used with 12, 24, 36, 48, and 60-volt DC battery systems and is able to charge a lower nominal-voltage battery from a higher nominal-voltage array. For example, the Conext MPPT 60-150 can charge a 12-volt battery from a 36-volt array. This provides flexibility for installers to use longer wiring runs without compromising efficiency. This solar charge controller can be installed (in single or multi-unit configurations) with Xantrex XW+ Hybrid Inverter/Charger(s) or can be used in other solar energy systems where a solar charge controller is needed. The Conext MPPT 60-150 incorporates a dynamic Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm designed to maximize energy harvest from the PV array. The MPPT constantly adjusts the operating points of the array to ensure it stays on the maximum power point. It does not stop energy harvest to sweep the array like some other competing products. This feature is beneficial all sunlight conditions, especially in areas with fast moving cloud cover and quickly changing solar conditions.

Description
Blue Sky's low cost Solar Boost 3024iL provides a fully automatic 3-stage charge control system. Your battery will fully charge, and you will be ensured of enhanced battery performance with less maintenance. A partial IPA network interface is also included to allow use of the IPN-Remote or IPN-ProRemote displays. The user configurable auxiliary output can serve as either a 20 amp load controller, or as a 2 amp auxiliary battery charger. The load control feature can be used to limit excessive battery discharge in unattended remote systems. The auxiliary battery charge feature is ideal for charging a separate battery such as the engine battery in an RV. The auxiliary output can also provide fully adjustable dusk to dawn lighting control. Blue Sky Energy’s advanced Integrated Power Net™, or IPN Network, allows up to 8 IPN capable charge controllers to communicate with each other and operate as a single machine rather than separate charge controllers. The IPN network also allows networked controllers to share an optional battery temperature sensor and remote display. The IPN network does not require a display or other special hardware to operate.
